Thyroid disorder is very common these days but not many know it’s a manifestation of a deeper problem.

In yoga, it is believed that the Vishuddhi Chakra or energy centre is largely responsible for the proper functioning of the thyroid glands.

But apart from the thyroid glands, the Vishuddhi Chakra is also responsible for an individual’s communication and expression powers.

A person whose vishuddhi is blocked is not able to express his or her feelings. The other symptoms of a blocked vishuddhi are: regular cold and cough attacks which take a long time to cure and indigestion due to underproduction of saliva in the glands.

When the Vishuddhi Chakra is open, a person has a stronger and more powerful presence, and a clearer voice and thought process. Here is a posture that helps in keeping this chakra active. 

JALANDHAR BANDHA 

Procedure

1. Sit in any meditative posture.

2. Inhale and lock your chin to your chest.

3. Puff the chest up slightly and retain the breath inside for as long as is comfortable

4. Slowly bring your head up and exhale.

5. Repeat this only thrice a day.

2. Increases breath retention.

3. Relives stress, anxiety and anger.

Caution: People suffering from neck problems must not put their head down and keep it straight.
