BurJuman once again plays host to the "Pink Survivor Fashion Show" - an annual event in which breast-cancer survivors take to the ramp as models and ambassadors of the cause. Organised by Safe and Sound, the key message behind this year's programme is "Early Detection Saves Lives". Every woman participating in the fashion show stands witness to the fact that pre-emptive testing is mandatory for surviving cancer.
"If we can ultimately see more survivors due to increased awareness brought about by such events in tandem with our comprehensive outreach programme, we have achieved our goal," says Sabina Khandwani, spokesperson for Safe and Sound, head of marketing and PR BurJuman.
The "Pink Survivor Fashion Show" is scheduled to take place at 7.30pm in BurJuman on October 21.

K-Lynn Lingerie has set up "Taking the K-Lynn Pledge", a community initiative to raise awareness of breast-cancer care throughout October. Each woman who takes the "K-Lynn Pledge" will receive a voucher for a breastcare consultation at Dubai London Specialty Hospital and for free mammograms and sonograms if needed. All "pledges" in the form of photos and signatures will create the window display of K-Lynn at Mall of the Emirates and online as an album for sharing. Abu Dhabi Golf Club
On October 23, Abu Dhabi Golf Club is hosting Pink Lady Golf Day to raise funds for the Cancer Research UK charity (www.jointhefight.org.uk). The fundraising effort has a Royal Wedding theme and the competition is open to women of all ages preferably dressed in pink. Starting at 12.30pm, the event will be followed by a buffet dinner at 6pm, after which prizes will be awarded to the best dressed team, best game of golf played and for the most amusing outfit worn. The format will be a team of four competition, and the entry fee for members is Dh150 and Dh395 for guests, inclusive of the 18-hole competition, cart hire, range balls, prize presentation and dinner. A raffle will also be held with proceeds going to charity. Women of Heart - 2011
Featuring the works of 50 artists from UAE, Women of Heart - 2011 is an exhibition dedicated to cancer fighters and survivors. The exhibition takes place at Festival Centre, Dubai Festival City next to Toys r Us, until October 15.
Lighting up the way
A symbol for Breast Cancer Awareness (BCA), the Pink Ribbon was co-created in 1992 by Evelyn Lauder, senior corporate vice-president of The Estée Lauder Companies along with SELF magazine.
The Estée Lauder "Pink Product" for 2011 is the La Mer lip Balm. Retailing at Dh270, an equivalent of $10 in dirhams from each limited-edition balm sold during this month will be donated to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
In 2000, the BCA Campaign expanded its efforts and launched the Global Landmarks Illumination Initiative by partnering with recognised landmarks around the world to spread awareness.
