Dubai-based designer Michael Cinco couldn’t have asked for a better start to 2013. Last Thursday, American pop star Lady Gaga chose to wear his creation for a charity ball in Los Angeles.

“It’s the best gift I have received in 2013. All designers are dying to dress her and she chose me,” said Cinco in an interview with tabloid!.

The Filipino designer, whose eponymous couture label is a hit among Arab royalty, didn’t know about it until Lady Gaga’s stylist sent him a picture on Instagram.

“It came as a big surprise,” said Cinco.

“The dress I designed was created in five days. It was couture-meets-avant garde. We all know she has an outrageous sense in fashion -- she always wears something crazy and out of this world. So for her to pick my creation feels great.” The outfit was long gown made from black sequined fabric adorned with ceramic crystals and laser-cut mirrors.

“Since I designed the gown keeping the perfume launch in mind, the inspiration was her perfume bottle. All this happened in November. At that time, she had put on a lot of weight,” said Cinco. The Born This Way singer’s weight fluctuations have been well-documented.

“Now that she has lost a lot of weight, the dress fit her perfectly.” The dress was US size 4.

This is not Cinco’s first brush with Hollywood and pop stars. In 2011, Cinco designed a segment for Tyra Banks’ America’s Next Top Model. Currently, he’s working on a “huge Hollywood project”.

“I can’t talk about it now, but it’s exciting.”
