Michael C. Hall stars as Richard Dane in IFC Films' Cold in July (2014)

Cold in July

Dexter is back… only looking or sounding nothing like Dexter. Actor Michael C Hall takes the lead in this film, which has to be the film of the week. He’s Richard, a guy who in the middle of the night does something to save his family tha will haunt him forever. Set in Texas in the 1980s (so we see some serious mullets) this drama puts a quiet family man and a murderous ex-convict together — and they mean business. This film has it all — romance, death, drama, gun fights, oh and did I mention the mullets? A perfect night’s viewing this July, when nothing is cold.

Sword of Vengence

If you’re missing Game Of Thrones and need a sword fight or two then this film is for you. Big costumes, big fights and a lot at stake with this film, from the guys who bought us Hammer Of The Gods. Borgia and Annabelle find an unlikely hero who will do all he can to save them as he fights for his code of honour. If you can deal with all the random slow-motion scenes then try this movie out… if not, maybe wait until the DVD comes out so you can just fast forward it.

Inescapable

Do you enjoy Taken but thought it needed more of a Middle Eastern feel? Well look no further than Inescapable. Adib Abdul Kareem (Alexander Siddig) is the Liam Neeson character who has made quite a few enemies from his time in Damascus. How will they get their revenge? Kidnap his little girl, of course.

A lot of people want rid of Adib, formerly an officer in the Syrian military police, so when he goes back to the country he fled from 25 years ago he isn’t welcomed with open arms, especially by his ex-fiancee Fatima (Marisa Tomei), so he seeks the help of Canadian emissary Paul (Joshua Jackson). Will he get his daughter back and will she be in one piece? With the guilt of knowing it’s his fault she’s in that situation, he’ll do anything to get her back.

Dark Summer

This week’s horror film comes from Paul Solet, the man who brought us Grace. 17-year-old Daniel (Keir Gilchrist) is under house arrest for the summer under strict instructions from his dad. The reason he’s cooped up for the summer? Stalking his classmate Mona. And now his obsession is back and out to get him in the freakiest possible way. This film will shock you, scare you and make you jump for all the right reasons.
