Who’s in it? Josh Hutcherson, Shanley Caswell, Spencer Locke, Dane Cook
Rating: 3 stars (out of a possible 5)
Josh Hutcherson (yes, The Hunger Games’ Peeta, as we all now know him) stars as the popular student Clapton Davis in this grisly horror, which one critic labelled “manic throwback horror comedy”.
Starting off as a classic high school drama, with students suffering the usual
rights-of-passage, hormone-fuelled plights with a heavy dose of teen angst, it soon turns into a rollercoaster horror flick, about a killer named Cinderhella, who stalks the students of Grizzly Lake High School, while they’re all stuck in detention.
Expect to laugh in what feels like inappropriate places, get confused with some of the movie’s quick turns and still find yourself looking out for the love story, even though it feels wrong as you watch the students race to stop the killer; but only if they can find a way out of detention first...
Falling skies season 1
Who’s in it? Noah Wyle, Moon Bloodgood, Drew Roy, Will Patton
Rating: 4 stars
One of Steven Spielberg’s first ventures into television production, this is a movie-scale sci-fi series about a group of survivors six months on from a devastating alien attack on earth.
Most of the world has been destroyed and only 10 per cent of the population is left alive, left to piece their lives together and tasked with fighting back against the chaotic invasion.
Citizens band together as soldiers outside destroyed cities, including Second Massachusetts group, which is led by Captain Weaver (Patton) and Boston University history professor Tom Mason (Wyle), who, while looking for his son Ben (Connor Jessup), is forced to put his military knowledge into practice in the emerging resistance movement.
Every episode has movie-standard twists and it’s the kind of TV show you want
to watch as a box set, so there’s not a second wasted as you watch.
