It’s week four at my nine-week transformation at (Round’s kickboxing gym and while I’m not ready to flaunt a two-piece bikini at the beach just yet, I’m more than prepared for a good fist fight. I’m also, finally, at that point where I can see why fitness buffs are so attached to their weekly routines – it’s so easy to get addicted to the endorphin rush. So much so, on the days I’m not exercising, I can feel the dip in my energy levels and I’m that much more stressed at the end of a long day. Let me assure you, exercising can be so much more than just losing weight. It’s a whole new lifestyle.

In more exciting news, I’ve managed to make another dent in my weight – while I weighed in at 56kg at the beginning of week 1, I’m at 53kg at week 4. Seeing that my goal was to get back to 50kg, I’m happy that I’m already halfway there.

AN UNFORSEEN BREAK

While you may have the best of intentions and have meticulously planned out your existence, life doesn’t always go along for the ride. A doctor’s appointment has led to the discovery of an unforeseen ailment, and while it’s not serious, I’ve been asked to take as much rest as possible for the next two weeks. This means, no exercise, not even light yoga.

Turns out that all the tiredness I’ve been feeling after a workout was not the result of a hardcore workout, but that of an unhealthy body. And thus, I learnt another valuable lesson this week. We need to be extremely vigilant and be in tune with our body. If you feel something is not right, don’t push yourself. Step back and evaluate what you’re feeling, talk to your trainer, and see a doctor if you must.

I plan to take the next two weeks extremely slowly, so I can come back and roll with the punches again. Keep your eyes on Gulf News tabloid! for when we return, fitter and stronger, and complete the nine-week challenge.
