DUBAI: There’s light at the end of the tunnel for PS4 users waiting for their chance to play Last year’s Gulf News Game of the Year, Rise of the Tomb Raider.

The game will be available on PS4 on October 11 in a special 20 Year Celebration edition, Square Enix said in a press release on Wednesday.

The special edition, marking the anniversary of the first Tomb Raider release in 1996, will include support for PlayStation VR, allowing players to explore Croft Manor.

It will also feature a new chapter, Blood Ties, set in heroine Lara Croft’s family home, Croft Manor, and new costumes and weapons, as well as all previous downloadable content (DLC) released for Xbox One and PC.

And a new Endurance co-op mode will allow online players to explore tombs together.

The new content, except the VR support, will be available free to existing season pass holders. There’s also a new Extreme Survivor mode, which will feature no campsites for resting, but will require players to scavenge resources to build their own campsites.

In a press release, Square Enix say of the Blood Ties expansion: “When Lara’s uncle contests ownership of the Manor, Lara must explore the estate to find proof that she is the rightful heir, or lose her birthright and father’s secrets for good. Players can then test their zombie-killing skills in the repayable Lara’s Nightmare mode: a haunted Croft Manor where players have new challenges and must rid the Manor of an evil presence.”

“This year we celebrate 20 years of the iconic Lara Croft,” said Ron Rosenberg, Co-Head of Studio at developers Crystal Dynamics, in a press statement. “This provided the perfect opportunity for us to deliver a new Tomb Raider experience. With the addition of PlayStation VR support, you can play the world through Lara’s eyes for the first time in franchise history.”
