Injustice 2 gives you the chance to determine the outcome to the age-old question of who will win in a fight between Superman and Batman, or Batman and the Flash, or the Joker and…Gorilla Grodd? With 28 playable characters and another 10 on the way as DLC, let’s just say that there’s a lot of interesting matchups to be had.

Super versatile

If you’re a beginner or casual fighting game fan, you’ll enjoy the fact that Injustice 2 is very accessible. It’s easy to pick up and have fun either solo or against other players, whether on the same console or online.

But it also rewards serious fans willing to put in hours upon hours of study and practice to become true masters in what remains a genre that rewards practice and skill like few others.

Fortunately there is a great tutorial and robust practice mode that gives you all the tools you need to improve your game.

Super hard-core

And constantly improving is a must if you’re going to head into the online ranked mode, where any delusions of adequacy will soon be shattered as you watch your character smashed to pieces in a few seconds in ways you didn’t even know were possible.

If online or local versus play isn’t your thing though, there’s more than enough content here to keep you happily occupied on your own for very long time.

Even if you’re not a fan of fighting games per se, Injustice 2 is still worth checking out, especially if you’re even a little bit of a fan of the DC universe and its characters such as Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, etc. The story mode is very well executed, and just the opening cinematic on its own is better than some entire recent comic book movies.

Super moves

One of the highlights of any match is pulling off your character’s unique super move, the Injustice equivalent of Mortal Kombat’s infamous x-ray attacks, but decidedly less gruesome. They are almost all hilariously over-the-top, capturing the comic-book inspired feel perfectly. It never gets old too see Flash drag his opponent back in time and smash him into the face of a feeding Tyrannosaurus Rex…

Super dress-up

Loot-drops have become an unfortunate staple in modern games, but Injustice 2 manages that rare feat of making you not hate them. Levelling up your favourite characters and customising their look with new gear is fun and addictive, but if that’s not your thing, then you won’t be disadvantaged in any way. Ranked play is not affected by any unlocks you may or may not have, and gear stats can be turned off in unranked play as well.

Super verdict

I’ve just touched on some of the many modes and gameplay opportunities Injustice 2 has to offer. It’s got more content and customisation options than any fighting game before it, and has upped the ante for anything that comes after. It looks gorgeous, plays beautifully and is excellent value for money.

Looking ahead

Need For Speed goes Fast and Furious

EA have announced a new entry in the Need for Speed franchise in the form of Need for Speed Payback, which seems to take not a small amount of inspiration from The Fast and the Furious film franchise. The game “has a single player campaign that follows the exploits of former street racer Tyler Morgan. After being double-crossed and forced into exile, it’s time for Payback. Tyler must rebuild his crew, win an impossible race and bring down The House, the cartel that has a grip over the city’s casinos, criminals and cops”. See what I mean?

The recently released trailer is worth a look on YouTube, but be warned, you might find yourself wishing that you will have to wait until November to be able to play it.
