Ever seen a giraffe encapsulated in a bubble? That’s what the people behind the Arabian Bubble Celebration are promising when the show opens on May 19 at the Dubai World Trade Centre.

Guinness World Record holders Deni and Melody Yang are coming to Dubai to prove that bubbles are more than just tiny spheres of soap that kids blow in the backyard. The siblings hold two Guinness World records — for creating the largest bubble, having a diameter of 56 metres and for the largest number of people inside a bubble (181 people). They will display their bubble-making skills during the show creating different shapes, from square-shaped bubbles to smoke filled bubbles and bubbles within bubbles.

“Bubbles are something universal, something everyone understands. They bring joy and happiness and it brings out the child in all of us,” says Melody Yang. “There are no barriers, it’s all about being there and the energy [the bubbles] bring, doesn’t matter where you’re from.”

The Yangs’ bubbly affair started off early, when the two were only four or five years old. Their father, who was a street performer, discovered the endless tricks and possibilities with bubbles, which his children carry forward today — on a much bigger scale. From their base in New York, the two have taken their shows around the world.

But the duo, who normally perform separately, have decided to come together in Dubai for the first time in years. Their show will also have an interactive session with the audience that breaks away from the normal routine they usually perform.

While the twosome make the bubble tricks look effortless, it’s not as easy as it looks. A lot of factors come to play to create the kind of ‘magic’, from the soap solution to the environment they perform in... it all has to be perfect. For instance, it can’t be too windy or too dry to ensure the bubbles last. The pair use a seven-ingredient secret recipe, which includes dish-washing liquid and baby shampoo, to create the soapy concoction that gives the bubbles its superior strength, shine and stretchability. On an average, depending on the size of the venue, every show uses up to a whopping 150-200 gallons of the soapy liquid.

The performers guarantee a “visual spectacle” that involves not only bubbles, but 3D projections, laser technologies, music and dance sequences. One of the highlights, Deni reveals, is a performance he calls a “Star Wars-meets-Matrix level of performance” that he says is sure to please the older audience.

Don’t miss it!
