Actors Kamal Haasan and Gautami are separating after 13 years of living together. The pair were never married. ‘Heart-broken to have to share … Life and decisions,’ tweeted South Indian actress Gautami.
In a blog post talking about the break-up, Gautami says that it has been one of the most devastating decisions that she ever had to make.
“It is never easy for anyone in a committed relationship to realise that their paths have irreversibly diverged and that the only choices in front of them are to either compromise with their dreams for life or to accept the truth of their solitude and move ahead. It has taken me a very long time, a couple of years at the very least, to accept this heartbreaking truth and come to this decision.”
Gautami also said that as a mother, her responsibility to her child (her daughter from her marriage to businessman Sandeep Bhatia), came first.
“It is essential that I am at peace with myself,” she added.
Gautami, a cancer survivor, recently met Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss the activities of her NGO, Life Again.
Life Again reaches out to cancer survivors and aims to create a better life for them.
Gautami returned to films in 2015 with Papanasam, the Tamil remake of Drishyam. Her last release was the trilingual Vismayam, opposite Mohan Lal.
She designed costumes for Kamal Haasan’s upcoming film, Sabash Naidu.
