Abu Dhabi: The Ministry of Education and GEMS Education signed an agreement launching the second edition of the Innovative Teacher Award 2017.

The award targets innovative Emirati teachers in the education sector in public, private or technical schools in the UAE. Teachers must have experience of not less than three years.

The winning teacher will be awarded with an annual cash prize of Dh1 million. The award will also offer a training programme abroad for 20 Emirati teachers.

The agreement was signed at the ministry’s head office in Abu Dhabi by Hussain Ebrahim Al Hammadi, Minister of Education, and Dino Varkey, managing director of GEMS Education.

Al Hammadi said that the UAE has become a patron of education thanks to the growing interest of the wise UAE leadership in this vital sector. He pointed out that the ministry spares no effort in achieving effective educational standards that are based on wise policies and practices to accomplish advanced educational goals.

Varkey said that the UAE has always strived to adopt the best and most effective steps that support the education sector in a way that complements the National Agenda and UAE Vision 2021. He emphasised that such efforts will contribute to the development of an excellent education system in the country.
