Dubai: The third edition of Global Islamic Economy Summit was opened by Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, on Tuesday.

Attended by more than 2,500 local, regional and foreign delegates, the summit deliberated on issues surrounding the Islamic economy including the scalable solutions to empower the next generation and ways to harness the underutilised capital and high-impact philanthropy for social development among others.

On the sidelines of the GIES 2016, Shaikh Hamdan launched the ‘My Salaam’ portal and mobile app. My Salaam portal and mobile app complement the B2B platform Salaam Gateway launched by His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, during the second edition of GIES in 2015. “The My Salaam App is an innovative and progressive initiative that is fully aligned with the digital age we live in. Through this launch, we aspire to empower Islamic economy businesses as well as consumers with powerful tools to live more efficiently, abundantly, and wisely — even while staying in tune with the times and enjoying the conveniences of our digital and mobile age,” Shaikh Hamdan said.

Salaam Gateway is a B2B platform providing insights, reports and an international company database for all industries within the Islamic economy space.

Anticipating the growth in the industry and with a focus on expanding the scope of this digital platform, Dubai Islamic Economy Development Centre (DIEDC) in partnership with Thomson Reuters, launched My Salaam — a B2C platform that aims to further enhance and grow the Islamic economy by connecting Islamic economy businesses to the 1.7 billion Muslim consumers worldwide.

My Salaam covers three main aspects of the Muslim B2C space enabling users to enjoy lifestyle content, including stories, videos, photo galleries and quizzes on style, money, spirituality, travel, culture, health and technology, among other categories. The app allows users to browse through latest trends in modest fashion, halal pharmaceuticals and cosmetics, as well as Islamic apps across its marketing platform. It also strengthens the users’ Islamic roots through leveraging tools such as Zakat Calculator, Prayer Times, and Hijri Calendar and also track and log their activities.

“While Salaam Gateway connects businesses to businesses and professionals around the globe, My Salaam brings this initiative full circle and convenes Muslim consumers, the Umma, and Islamic businesses worldwide on one platform,” said Essa Kazim, the secretary-general of Dubai Islamic Economy Development Centre.
