Several building fires have occurred recently and some of them have garnered global attention. 
 
Here are five fire incidents that made headlines in the last five years.
 

1. National Museum of Natural History, Delhi

April 25, 2016



A massive fire completely destroyed the iconic National Museum of Natural History in Delhi near Mandi House. While trying to douse the fire, seven firemen have been reported injured and another two are in critical condition. The fire occurred around 1:45am on the sixth floor of the museum and quickly spread to all seven floors. It also caught onto another building in the same complex.
 
 

2. Devi Temple, Kollam 

April 10, 2016



 
During an annual Hindu festival at a temple near Kollam in Kerala, South India, a storehouse of fireworks materials exploded killing over 100 devotees and leaving more than 300 injured. Although the fireworks display was forbidden by officials, the temple authorities proceeded with the show and are now facing charges.
 

3. The Address Downtown Dubai

December 31, 2015



On New Year’s Eve, a fire engulfed the 63-storey hotel, The Address Downtown Dubai around 9:25pm. Caused by an electrical short circuit, the fire started between the 14th and 15th floor. There were no reported fatalities.
 

4. Dhaka Garment Factory, Bangladesh

November 24, 2012



On November 24, 2012, a fire broke out in Tazreen Fashion factory in the Ashulia district on the outskirts of Dhaka, Bangladesh. More than 117 people died in the fire and another 200 were injured. This fire is considered to be one of the darkest moments in the nation’s history.
 
Since 2009, the company employed about 1,630 people and produced clothing such as T-shirts, polo shirts and jackets for multiple international companies. A part of the Tuba Group, Tazreen Fashion factory had a major export market in countries like US, Germany and France.
 

5. Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant, Japan

March 15, 2011



 
In 2011, an earthquake and tsunami caused a series of nuclear accidents at Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant. This further resulted in a massive explosion at the plant. Three employees were killed during the earthquake and tsunami, but there were no reported injuries from the nuclear accident. This power plant has been permanently shut down.
