Dubai: The Dubai Police arrested a gang of five Asian men who used fake documents to get smart phones from Etisalat, an official said on Tuesday.

Major General Khalil Ebrahim Al Mansouri, Assistant to the Dubai Police Chief for Criminal Investigation Affairs, said the gang deceived the telecommunication company by using fake names and documents to get smart services and phone numbers.

“We received information that a gang used forged documents to obtain Etisalat numbers and smart phones. We launched an investigation and arrested the five suspects,” Major General Al Mansouri said.

Colonel Salah Bu Osaiba, director of the Anti-Economic Crimes Department of Dubai Police, said one suspect was arrested and he admitted used to get customers who wanted to buy smart phones and received Dh300 for each customer.

“The main suspect was obtaining smart phones from Etisalat by presenting fake documents and different names to get the phones. We arrested him and found a laptop and fake certificates. Later, we arrested the rest of the gang in Al Baraha area and we found stamps belong to different companies and fake salary certificates,” Colonel Bu Osaiba said.

The suspect confessed that he was selling the smart phones for a shop in Deira.

All the suspects were referred to Dubai public prosecution to finish the investigation.
