Dubai: The Dubai Police Headquarters’ mosque was officially named after Lt. Gen Khamis Mattar Al Mazeina, the late Dubai Police chief, who died from a heart attack on Thursday evening.

Lt Gen Dahi Khalfan Tamim, Deputy Chairman of Police and General Security in Dubai, said the move was to memorialise Lt Gen Al Mazeina’s memory, his loyalty and all he has done for the force and for being a national role model that people should follow.

He added that this is the least they can do to honour one of force’s most loyal sons. This gesture, he said, reflects how the force felt towards him. “This man — may he rest in peace — spent his life and time serving his country and Dubai Police, and was always keen on protecting the country’s reputation and ensuring excellence, to the extent that he forgot that his body has a right over him,” he said.

Lt. Gen Dahi said the country lost a man who was hard to replace, “but this is Allah’s will, and we believe in it. Death is inevitable and there is no escape from it, and we ask Allah to bestow his mercy on him.”
