Dubai: A Dubai Metro train on the Red Line got stuck in a tunnel between Union and Al Riqqa stations for around 30 minutes on Sunday.

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) confirmed that a train on the Red Line faced some technical issues between 4pm and 4.30pm.

“There was a technical issue with a train that stopped on it tracks between Union and Al Riqqa. We had to move the train manually to the Riqqa station where the passengers had to disembark. Normal services resumed after the train was removed,” said Moaza Al Merri, director of Marketing and Corporate Communications at RTA.

A passenger told Gulf News that the train got stuck in a tunnel and that made some of the commuters uncomfortable.

“We were on the Dubai Metro and the train suddenly came to a halt at about 4.09pm when we were inside the tunnel. We couldn’t open the doors. Some children were obviously panicking. There were all these odd sounds coming from the train,” an Indian woman, who did not wish to be identified, told Gulf News.

She added: “It was an unusual halt. It was sudden and strong but no one fell from his or her seat. You could feel something unusual happening on the train.”

The train, she said, was heading towards the direction of Al Rashidiya.

“We were inside the train for roughly 34 minutes. They were making announcements that there was a ‘technical snag’ and said that they are resolving it.”

The train was manually driven to Al Riqqa station and passengers were allowed to exit the train.
