Dubai: The government’s Awqaf and Minor Affairs Foundation (AMAF) donated on Tuesday Dh5.7 million to similar Islamic endowment foundations in South Africa and Australia.

The donations will go towards the promotion of moderate Islamic values and the building of Islamic schools in the two countries.

Dh4.7 million was given to the National Awqaf Foundation of South Africa, while the remaining Dh1 million went to Awqaf Australia.

The money was donated in line with the will of late Saudi businessman and philanthropist Ahmad Baghlaf.

“Through the financial support provided to international awqaf foundations via the late Ahmad Baghlaf’s will, we aim to increase awareness of the Islamic values of moderation, justice and peace, and promote Islam’s key message of tolerance worldwide,” said AMAF secretary-general Tayeb Al Rais.

“We also seek to empower Muslim expat communities and enhance their capabilities through education.”
