Sharjah: Sharjah Police have laid out a new traffic plan to regulate traffic congestion as the new academic year begins on Sunday.

Colonel Abdullah Bin Amer, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Sharjah Police, said 60 traffic patrols are assigned to control traffic congestion during peak hours.

The patrols will be deployed across all the roads of the emirate, mainly major intersections leading to schools.

The emirate’s roads are divided into five major sectors overseen by competent and efficient officers in the field, including, Muwailah, Wasit, Heira, Al Majaz and industrial areas.

A drone will also be deployed to monitor traffic flow and transmit images of traffic. police will communicate with community members via social media channels to guide them to alternative roads to avoid areas of congestion.

Police have asked drivers to follow traffic movement via their smartphones and follow directions issued to them by taking the right route and urged parents who drop their children to go to school early to avoid traffic.

Col Bin Amer urged all community members to collaborate with traffic officers and follow their direction.

Sharjah Police urged all drivers, parents of students, staff and workers heading to their jobs to take precautions to avoid accidents or causing obstruction and congestion of traffic.

Sharjah Police teams will also visit schools to share with students their happiness in the new academic year and to interact with them by giving advice to ensure their safety.

Col Bin Amer said police will continue their cooperation with all the concerned departments and agencies to protect students and the school environment from harassment and negative phenomena.
