Sharjah: The General Commander of Sharjah Police has put out a new traffic plan to regulate traffic as the new academic year begins.

Colonel Abdullah Bin Amer, Deputy Commander-in-chief of Sharjah Police, said 60 traffic patrols have been assigned to deal with traffic congestion during peak hours.

The patrols will be deployed across all roads of the emirate, with emphasis on major intersections leading to schools and universities.

A drone will also be deployed to monitor traffic flow and transmit traffic conditions.

Police will communicate with community members via social media channels to guide them to alternative routes wherever required.

Police have urged motorists to follow traffic conditions via their smartphones and follow directions issued to them. They also urged parents to drop their children off to school early to avoid traffic congestion.

Col. Bin Amer urged all community members to cooperate with traffic officers and follow their directions to ensure smooth traffic and safety while transporting children to school and back. All drivers should pay heed to speed and avoid overtaking wrongfully, said Sharjah Police.

Sharjah police will also visit schools and interact with students to offer them advice on how to stay safe and launch awareness initiatives in schools to spread awareness on security.
