COURTESY Dubai Police Dubai Police have arrested an Asian driver after he killed one person and in injured three others in a run-over accident on Mohammad Bin Zayed road and fled from the spot, police said on Sunday. Major General Khalil Ebrahim Al Mansouri, Assistant Commander-in-Chief for Criminal Investigation Affairs of Dubai Police, said the incident happened on Friday when the Asian man who was driving a cement mixer vehicle, ran over a group of Asian men who were walking on the hard shoulder in Al Qusais area.

Dubai: Dubai Police have arrested an Asian hit-and-run driver within an hour after the cement mixer that he was driving run over a group of four people, killing one of them and injuring the rest, in Al Qusais area on Mohammad Bin Zayed road, police said on Sunday.

Major General Khalil Ebrahim Al Mansouri, Assistant Commander-in-Chief for Criminal Investigation Affairs of Dubai Police, said the fatal accident occurred on Friday when the Asian driver ran over a group of Asian men who were walking on the hard shoulder in Al Qusais area.

“He fled from the site of the accident after running over four Asian men. He made a big mistake as he will be charged for two crimes. Escaping after committing a traffic accident means he will face a criminal case,” Major General Al Mansouri said.

The police were alerted about the fatal hit-and-run accident on Mohammad Bin Zayed road towards Sharjah at 9.45pm on Friday,

Brigadier Yousuf Al Adidi, director of Al Qusais police station said:“One person was seriously injured and two others suffered moderate injuries, while the driver escaped. Within an hour we identified his location and arrested him.”

The driver was hiding in Sharjah and Dubai Police cooperated with Sharjah Police to arrest him.

“He was surprised and was at a loss to know how we managed to pin-point his place of hiding within an hour. He confessed to his crime and claimed that he was scared and decided to escape from the accident scene,” Brigadier Al Adidi added.

The suspect was referred to public prosecution.
