A biopic about Indian player M.S. Dhoni made Rs213 million (Dh11.7 million) on its opening day in India, according to the movie’s producers.
Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput plays the title role in M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story, directed by Neeraj Pandey. Produced by Fox Star Studios and Arun Pandey, the film released in India on September 30 on more than 4,500 screens.
The film is the biggest non-festive opener and the biggest opener for a biopic in the country, according to a press release.
“Like Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan, Dhoni, too, enjoys a huge fan following thanks to his great cricketing career. This is one of the main reasons the film has clicked with the audience,” film exhibitor Akshaye Rathi said.
The film stars Kiara Advani as Dhoni’s wife Sakshi, along with Disha Patani, Anupam Kher and Bhumika Chawla.
