Dubai: The first medical tourism packages, in line with the medical tourism policy of the Dubai Health Authority, will be rolled out on October 22-23 during the first health regulations conference taking place in Dubai.

This was announced at DHA’s smart clinic initiative during Gitex 2014.

The two-day conference taking place at Conrad Hotel, Dubai will act as a platform to discuss best practices in health regulation and medical tourism in the region and around the globe.

Giving further details on the discounted packages, Dr Layla Al Marzouqi, Acting Director of DHA Health Regulation Department, said: “The packages will cater to both residents and tourists. For tourists the package will include hotel stay and flight tickets. For residents, it will offer discounted rates for certain medical services. The packages are comprehensive and extremely convenient and can be bought at the venue of the conference. Entry to this exhibition is free of cost.”

DHA had revealed earlier that the packages will initially cover seven areas of treatment such as dermatology, dental procedures, preventive health checks, plastic surgery, orthopaedics and ophthalmology.

In the first phase, the packages will be rolled out for wellness and health checks and are aimed at a comprehensive approach and treatment plan for lifestyle diseases to help in early detection, diagnosis and treatment.

Executive packages for men and women will comprise specialist consultation, lab tests and other diagnostic tests. For instance, women’s health package will include consultation with a gynaecologist, several investigations including but not limited to blood tests and breast cancer screening and mammogram, Dr Layla added.

There will also be a weight-loss package that includes consultation with a dietician and diet plans based on the person’s medical history. The weight loss package will offer discount ranging from 10 to 40 per cent at prime health facilities in Dubai. However, these discounts will be applicable only during the medical tourism exhibition taking place in conjunction with the Health Regulations Conference.
