Stephen Colbert is returning for a second year to host the Kennedy Center Honors on December 6, saluting singer-songwriter Carole King, filmmaker George Lucas, actress/dancer Rita Moreno, conductor Seiji Ozawa and actress Cicely Tyson.

The 38th annual Kennedy Center Honors will air on CBS on December 29 at 9pm ET.

Host of CBS’ Late Show With Stephen Colbert, the actor/comedian made his debut as host last year, during the final production by longtime executive producer George Stevens Jr. This year, Ricky Kirshner and Glenn Weiss of White Cherry Entertainment are helming the show. The pair has won numerous awards for their work, including several Emmys for the Tony Awards telecast.

Kirshner and Weiss already encountered a major challenge earlier this month when the Eagles asked to defer their award to next year because of co-founder Glenn Frey’s health.

There have been six hosts in the ceremony’s 37 years. Leonard Bernstein hosted the first celebration in 1978, followed by Eric Sevareid and Beverly Sills. Walter Cronkite took over from 1981 to 2002, and Caroline Kennedy hosted from 2003 to 2012. Glenn Close hosted in 2013.
