A four-year-old Indian boy drowned on Friday night off Al Khan beach in Sharjah, an official told Gulf News on Saturday.

The boy was at the beach with his mother when the incident occurred at around 10.30pm. The child and his mother suddenly drifted away from the shore and drowned. The maritime team rescued the 30-year-old mother while the child drowned.

The victim was identified as M.R.M., the official said.

The rescue team recovered the body of the boy and transferred it to Al Qasimi Hospital, he said.

The mother was in a stable condition after receiving treatment at the hospital.

Meanwhile, a three-year-old child who nearly drowned in a water park in Sharjah died on Saturday morning, seven weeks after the incident, Gulf News has learnt

The Omani child, M.S.S. passed away in Al Qasimi hospital where he had been admitted in a critical condition following a drowning incident at Al Muntazah Park’s water park in Sharjah.

On August 17, the Omani child was admitted to the ICU of Al Qasimi Hospital at around 7.50pm.

The boy had slipped into the water and was pulled out when his family noticed him struggling in the water.

An official said it was a case of negligence and blamed the parents for the incident.
