Dubai: A businessman has been accused of threatening to kill a merchant and leave his dead body in front of a police station if he didn’t waive his lawsuit against him.

The 36-year-old Syrian businessman, G.S., was said to have verbally threatened to kill his Saudi partner by leaving him dead in front of a police station if he didn’t drop a swindling case that he had lodged against him in January.

The Saudi merchant told G.S. he could harm him since Dubai is a safe place, according to records, and not a dodgy zone like Syria.

Prosecutors accused G.S. of verbally threatening to kill the 35-year-old merchant.

Jail wardens did not bring in the suspect and produce him before the Dubai Court of First Instance to enter his plea.

According to the charge sheet, prosecutors said the merchant had lodged a swindling and deception case against G.S., who threatened to kill the Saudi if he didn’t drop his case and refrain from asking him for the money that he owed him.

The Saudi testified to prosecutors that he was doing business with a group of people [including G.S.] whom he claimed to be a “bunch of swindlers and cheaters”.

“The suspect was the main culprit and masterminded the act of deception … another Jordanian suspect conspired with him against me. They swindled me and embezzled my money. The Jordanian was arrested and detained in Al Wathba prison in Abu Dhabi after I complained to the police. G.S. remained at large until he was arrested in Dubai … but later he walked out on bail after he deposited his passport at the police custody. Later, I lodged two criminal cases against him. He was bailed out again … and since then he constantly threatened to kill me. In December I was walking in Al Aweer when suddenly a car without a number plate pulled over beside me … the suspect opened the window and said, ‘if you pursue your criminal case against me, I will kill you and drop your body before the police station’. I told him that Dubai is a safe land unlike Syria … then he said that he drives fancy cars and is untouchable. When he spoke to me like that, I felt scared and ran away. Then I reported the matter to the police,” the merchant claimed to prosecutors.

The trial continues.
