Dubai: Riyadh is seeing a rise in 5-star hotels, according to a statement by Dewan Architects and Engineers on Wednesday.

“As regional players are poised to take on more visitors ahead of the reviving economy, Riyadh is increasingly becoming a hub for logistics with a steady increase in demand for luxury properties and developments and this trend is clearly evident in the uptake of high quality development projects being witnessed,” the company said in the statement.

Dewan Architects and Engineers is working on the design of the 15-storey Qasr Al Aqeeq Hotel by Al Aqeeq Real Estate Development in Riyadh. The development features 198 guestrooms and wings and 70 serviced apartments, with facilities that include a gym, spa, swimming pool and retail outlets, among others.

“This luxury hotel will be operated by an international 5-star hotel operator which will be announced in due time by Al Aqeeq,” said Mohammad Al Assam, the company’s founder, chairman and managing director in the statement. Dewan has projects in Riyadh, Khobar and Jeddah.

Saudi Arabia’s construction sector grew at an average of 10 per cent in between 2010 and 2012, according to the statement.
