  • Even though illegal VoIP is blocked by telecom regulators, many still use it in the UAE to make calls. Users get a talk time of 10 hours by spending between Dh25-Dh35.

Dubai: Just spend $3 (Dh11) a month and get unlimited Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), also known as cheap internet calls, and messaging services anywhere in the world with high security features.

Porton Group is a privately held venture capital firm specialising in the commercialisation of technologies, mostly with Ministry of Defence.

“We take ideas and build for the battlefield and we take out of the battlefield for everyday use. We run private equity portfolios all round the world,” Harvey Boutler, chairman and CEO of Porton Group, said in an exclusive interview with Gulf News on the sidelines of the Emirates Knights 2013 held at the Atlantis Hotel late on Thursday.

The Seecrypt app was launched globally on Thursday on Apple, Android and BlackBerry 10 platforms where customers can have private conversations and messaging services anywhere in the world for free with another Seecrypt user.

He said the encrypted messaging changes keys with every message you send, making it impossible for “outsiders” to decode your conversations or messages.

“Unsecured calls may be vulnerable to interception by criminals, hackers, and competitors,” he said.

A free 90 day license is issued at product registration, after that a user has to pay a monthly subscription of just $3.

Security

Even though illegal VoIP is blocked by telecom regulators, many still use it in the UAE to make calls. Users get a talk time of 10 hours by spending between Dh25-Dh35.

When asked whether Seecrypt will be allowed by the telecom operators in the UAE, he said that it is an international app and to block it you need to turn the iTunes stores down.

“I can make a call right now anywhere in the world and it can operate over low speed networks like 2G and high speed networks like 3G, 4G LTE, WiFi and satellite networks,” Boutler said.

The app allows users to make and send real-time, end-to-end encrypted voice and text messages using the very best in cryptology, key management and information security techniques.

“It is secure and cannot be hacked or blocked. By summer, end users will get secure email and secure video conferencing as well,” he said.

“We are likely to provide a military version of Seecrypt app to Abu Dhabi government. Around 14 Head of States around the world are using military version of Seecrypt app. We have sold this app to around 27 governments around the world,” he said.

Porton Group owns 22 businesses around the world and Seecrypt is one of them.

It's high time the authorities come out of their cocoon and face some competition. The rates for calls, internet & TV services are very high and thus, people resort to illegal means as there is a huge difference. Kindly consider as I speak for the masses. God bless this country which has provided me with lots, Alhamdulillah & also it's leaders.
