Dubai: On its opening day, Global Village achieved a large-scale entry in the Guinness Book of World Records for most number of children being read to by adults in one location.

The new record involved 3,032 children being read to by 87 adults at the Global Village Amphitheatre last November 12. The previous registered world record involved 1,632 children read to by 47 adults.

The historic event gained wide international media attention as it coincided with the fourth world records international day organized by Guinness.

Schoolchildren from the Kindergarten Starters, a GEMS school in Garhoud, not only achieved a world record but also played a part in contributing 3,032 books for the Million Book Challenge for Dubai Cares.

Each child will receive an individual world record certificate to commemorate the event.

George Bell, the tallest man in USA, attended the event as a guest. Bell hailed the successful attempt and did not hide his surprise of the fast-developed city of Dubai.

"It's truly amazing what I saw here, I really didn't know what to expect when I accepted the invitation to come to Dubai, but am truly fascinated," he said.

Moreover, the event marked the opening of the unique and exciting Guinness World Records Pavilion where guests are encouraged to participate in breaking one record per week.
