Dubai: Haier, a late entrant into the TV business, is taking consumers to new levels of TV-centric entertainment, enabling improved and innovative features.

“We are launching products which are innovative to the masses. We will be launching 3D LED Android TV where the end user will have the same experience as using an Android smartphone,” Aamer Khan, director of Haier Middle East, told Gulf News.

“We are working on the future of televisions and have showcased a wireless 3D LED TV, see-through television and the technology that enables you to change channels or alter the volume with your eyes at IFA 2012 trade show. We are setting the agenda and bar for the next generation of televisions without losing out on the core qualities,” he said.

The hardware is controlled by Android Jelly Bean and transforms televisions into multimedia and gaming platforms. Access to the online content is also available, as well as video-on-demand and Google Play.

The Chinese firm will be launching it in two screen sizes – 32 and 42 inches priced at Dh1,699 and Dh2,700 respectively. It has a built-in hard disk drive of 4GB capacity and a microSD card slot for further 4GB capacity.

Our future models “will be based on this”. The future is cloud computing, so “you don’t need much space. If we have to add more space then we need to increase the processing power. Then the pricing will go up. We are a product for the masses,” he said.

He said currently TVs are told to do a lot of functions and this needs a lot of processing picture. “We are looking at improving the processing power in our future TVs.”

“We are number one in refrigerators and washing machines globally and as per Euromonitor International, the global leader in consumer market strategy research, we are the number one major appliance brand in the world and marks the third consecutive year to be given this honour,” Khan said.

“We do have aspirations to be in the top three in the categories we are working on. We are building our own infrastructure as there are still some hurdles to clear. We are expecting to grow by 50 this year in the region,” he said.

The Chinese firm will also be lunching tablets to the Middle East market in the first quarter of next year at a reasonable point.

“We will be launching a 7-inch tablet for less than Dh500 and 10-inch will follow soon,” he said.
