Abu Dhabi : Dubai's oil marketing companies — Emirates National Oil Company (Enoc), Emirates Petroleum Products Company (Eppco) and Emarat have decided to raise the price of diesel by 9 fils a litre at their pumps effective today, an oil company official said yesterday.

"The price of diesel effective March 18 will be Dh2.45 a litre, up from Dh2.36 a litre," Khalid Hadi, Enoc group brand and marketing manager, told Gulf News by telephone.

Hadi said the decision to increase the fuel's price follows a sharp increase in international oil prices in recent weeks.

"This is going to be the first diesel price increase in 2010 and the fourth since 2009. The price of diesel was previously increased on June 8, October 28 and August 18, last year," Hadi added.

Dubai's oil retailers purchase diesel at international prices and adjust the local prices, based on the landed price of the oil product. Diesel is widely used in the UAE as a transportation fuel and its prices have a direct bearing on inflation.
