To avoid feeling disenchanted from one’s career, it is ideal for people to start building a road map to success while they’re still young and pre-empt any potential issues that may come along their way.

A good starting point is to choose the right education that will later land them a career that fits one’s natural talents, passion or aspirations in life.

“Most people take on an education and career by accident and in many of these cases, it is parents, [trends] or grades that make the decision for us, so it is quite common to find people becoming totally disenchanted with their careers by the time they’re in their mid-thirties,” said Layla Halabi, partner at Learnactive.

“[They] should pre-empt the approaching crisis and explore alternative careers that they want, love or enjoy while they’re still in their mid to late twenties. That way, they can avoid the crisis altogether and build a career that they love and enjoy.”

Another way of pre-empting a career roadblock is by doing a research on an organisation’s work culture before joining. “It is critical for every job seeker to research the company and ensure they would be happy working in that culture. Talking to employees, or coming 20 minutes early to every interview just to watch and get a general feel of the place can help.”
