Dubai: Coca Cola Egypt has been named "Advertiser of the Year" at this year's Dubai Lynx Awards.

"Looking at the last two years of results, Coca Cola Egypt is quite easily the most creative brand in the region in what they're allowing their agencies to do and in the quality of work they're producing. Coke is a global brand, but the Coca Cola you see in America and in Europe is infinitely different from what they do here. They produce advertising in a local voice with local insight for a global brand and I think personally that is worthy of the title for this year," said Steve Lane, Festival Director at Dubai Lynx.

Most awarded

Coca Cola Egypt is the most awarded brand in the region. It won three Grand Prix awards in the last two years and eight Lynx awards in the last four years.

The Coca Cola Bottling Company is the sole bottler for Egypt and operates nine bottling plants throughout the country. It employs 11,494 staff to produce its 13 brands. It outsources its advertisements to local advertising agencies such as Ali Ali and Promoseven.

The fifth edition of the Dubai Lynx Advertising Awards has been gaining awareness among industry players and has seen a 52 per cent increase in candidates compared to last year. This is following the screening process which eliminates an estimated 7 to 8 per cent of applications.

Double digit growth

Across the different categories, the event has seen double digit growth in the number of applications, with the total number of 2,068 only 11 short of breaking a record in terms of entry numbers.

The biggest category this year is print followed by outdoor. This year, for the first time media has overtaken film. The event has also introduced design as a new category which has attracted 159 entries.

The top country participating is the UAE followed by Lebanon and Saudi Arabia. This year has also seen the introduced of Young Creatives Integrated competition. "In previous times we're had two competitions, Young Creatives Print and Young Creatives Media. Print was a competition to produce a double page spread in 24 hours while Media was a media pitch in 24 hours.," said Lane.
