Dubai : The State Audit Institution (SAI) has signed today a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Hawkamah, the institute for corporate governance, to establish joint strategic cooperation in order to promote governance practices in the UAE federal government.

The MoU was signed at SAI headquarters in Abu Dhabi by Dr Harib Al Amimi, SAI president, and Dr Nasser Al Saidi, executive director of Hawkamah. The MoU reflects SAI's keenness to provide international best practices in governance and implement them in the SAI's applied audit methodology.

Al Amimi said: "The Institute located at Dubai International Financial Centre will provide SAI's employees with accredited awareness programmes on governance, in addition to preparing joint researches in the same field."

Raising awareness

He indicated that the MoU includes many key objectives that SAI aims to achieve; the main one being cooperation to develop the awareness level of the federal government employees on the importance of the governance concept.

The main objective of the MoU also focuses on improving governance practices in federal ministries through implementing assessment processes jointly, developing plans to enhance those practices and developing the legal and regulatory frameworks for governance of SAI's control organisations in the UAE.

The two parties will exert their efforts to circulate the governance best practices and increase its importance through participating in conferences, symposiums and seminars organised by the institute, and establishing brochures on corporate governance.
