Dubai: Purchases of beauty products in the UAE have been expanding by more than 12.5 per cent per year, the National Human Resources Development and Employment Authority said.

The increase accounted for a 30 per cent expansion in the space devoted to beauty and perfume retailing in the past three years, the authority said.

This trend will continue in the context of the expected growth of the UAE's population.

"The priority people place on taking care of their appearance cannot be over-emphasised in this region," Beautyworld Middle East chief executive officer of Epoc Messe Frankfurt GmbH Ahmad Pauwels said.

"We have seen growth this year in the number of exhibitors and are delighted to note that there has been a significant increase from both local and US exhibitors.

"This clearly shows the surging demand for beauty products and services and that the industry continues to grow in this region."

Beautyworld Middle East, described as the largest international trade fair for beauty products in the Middle East, in its 15th year, opened yesterday with more than 700 exhibitors.

The exhibition was opened by Emirates Business Women's Council chairman Shaikha Dr Hind Bint Abdul Aziz Al Qasimi.
