Dubai: The United States is the UAE’s fourth non-oil trading partner, with a bilateral trade of Dh98.7 billion ($26.9 billion) in 2013, Sultan Bin Saeed Al Mansouri, the UAE Minister of Economy, said in a statement on Wednesday.

Al Mansouri is currently in the US leading a high-level trade delegation and will be touring until September 27.

Al Mansouri met Penny Pritzker, the US secretary of commerce and explored ways to strengthen the relations in areas of trade and investment.

“Our policy of economic openness has helped assure foreign investors and helped strengthen the country’s position on the global economic and trade map,” Al Mansouri stated.

“It was a matter of pride for every UAE citizen and resident that the country has managed in record time to become a competitive power on par with key developed countries, as per the global economic and development indicators issued by the United Nations, International Monetary Fund and World Economic Forum,” the ministry of economy said in a statement.

The UAE currently hosts more than 1,000 US companies, while more than 60,000 US citizens reside and work in the UAE.
