Dubai: The United Arab Emirates will host a major World Economic Forum (WEF) event later this year, it was announced on Thursday in Davos, alongside the ongoing World Economic Forum.

Mohammad Abdullah Al Gergawi, UAE Minister of Cabinet Affairs, and Klaus Schwab, the founder and Executive Chairman of the WEF, stated that the UAE will host the 2014 Summit on the Global Agenda, which will bring more than 1,000 intellectuals, experts and decision makers to the UAE.

The announcement was made following a meeting in Davos between Al Gergawi and Schwab where the two agreed on a partnership between the next month’s Government Summit in Dubai and the WEF.

The UAE will also host Summit on the Global Agenda for the seventh consecutive year in 2014. “UAE intellectuals, experts and leaders will be involved in preparing papers and research material that reflect our country’s vision on many global issues. Our ideas will help shape practical strategies that provide solutions to these issues,” Al Gergawi said in a statement.

He added that the Government Summit partnership with the World Economic Forum will “focus on the future of government administration around the world, including the most important challenges and solutions that will improve the performance of governments globally”.

Those attending the Summit on the Global Agenda will participate in workshops to identify trends and risks and also define priorities for “improving the state of the world.”

The Government Summit is set to be attended by over 3,500 delegates featuring speakers from across the world. A series of international reports and research papers on the development of government services will be launched at the Summit and it will discussions on best practice models for governments across the region.

“Strong international partnerships such as this will enhance the effectiveness of the Government Summit as a forum for improving government services and developing innovative concepts, policies and projects. Better government will benefit all people around the world,” Al Gergawi said.
