Dubai: The first Dubai Woodshow saw Dh23 million worth of deals signed during the three-day exhibition. The show, which attracted exhibitors from around the world, turned out to be hugely popular among visitors and exhibitors alike.

"We are certainly thrilled with the outcome of the Dubai Woodshow. Since it was the first edition, we were anxious as to how the event would turn out, but now we are glad that the success achieved has far exceeded our expectations.

"It was encouraging to note that both exhibitors and visitors benefited equally from the opportunities that the show presented. The success of Dubai Woodshow 2006 can be ascertained from the fact that more than 90 per cent of the exhibitors have already confirmed their participation in the next edition of the show in 2007," said Dawood Al Shezawi, Managing Director, Strategic Marketing and Exhibitions.

Rizwan Sajan, group chairman of Danube said, "We signed over $1 million worth of deals at the show, which was an excellent platform for wood industry players.

"We have no doubt that the exhibition will grow significantly in the coming years."

UAE-based Simco sold machines worth Dh1.2 million at the event, which closed on Wednesday.
