Realty developer Nakheel Corp has set up a specialised division, Nakheel Interiors, to handle the interior fitting requirements for The Palm Jumeirah.

It has contracted a local interior designer to come up with bespoke designs for the nearly 4,000 residential units that will come up on the island on its completion by late 2005 or early 2006, according to a senior official.

"We decided to offer our future tenants a choice based on feedback received from them," said Manal Shaheen, sales manager. "The whole intention with this exercise is to offer interior designs that reflect the Eighth Wonder of the world, which are The Palm islands.

"None of the designs on offer are picked out from catalogues or other sources. A good deal of time has been spent to ensure these are truly one of a kind."

The designs will be fitted out at the residential units without any additional charges.

The Palm Jumeirah is the first development from the Nakheel stable to start on construction. Work is progressing on schedule with residents expected to move in by early 2006.

Nakheel Interiors will also be considering a role in some of the other developments currently in various stages of their construction cycles, the official added. It will also soon take up assignments to evaluate, strategise, and help design creative indoor spaces in the future.

Meanwhile, Nakheel is seriously considering plans to set up a dedicated services management company for the projects within its fold.

"It is in the process and the management has already started looking at the ways such an entity will operate," said Shaheen.

"We have a successful history in real estate development, and alongside it, we have savoured success in planning, designing, implementing and this space now provides an opportunity to our customers to view some of the many different aspects of Nakheel."

A service charge is already inserted in the contracts that have been entered into between Nakheel and the prospective home owner.
