Sydney: Reserve Bank of Australia Governor Glenn Stevens is among the contenders to become the next governor of the Bank of England, the Sunday Times reported, citing unidentified sources.
Stevens was approached by UK Treasury officials as part of the process to replace current governor Mervyn King, according to the report. Stevens has been at his current post since September 2006.
Bank of England Deputy Governor Paul Tucker, Financial Services Authority Chairman Adair Turner, Independent Commission on Banking Chairman John Vickers and former UK civil service chief Gus O’Donnell are among favourites to succeed King when he steps down in June after a decade in the job.
Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne will see on Monday the full list of applicants to head the UK central bank. The decision will be announced by the end of 2012.
