Dubai: Emirates airline expects this week to be its busiest of the year as travellers head home or abroad for the holiday season as over 80,000 people use the airline on December 19 to travel on over 240 flights, according to Emirates’ latest booking figures.

The figure represents an increase of around 23 per cent over last year.

While the busiest day is expected on December 19, high passenger traffic is also expected starting from December 16-21. This year, top destinations out of Dubai include London, Bangkok, Mumbai, Singapore, Paris and Karachi, Emirates said in a statement.

Emirates has deployed extra staff at the airport to assist passengers, and urged customers to allow enough time to get through check points.

The airline further urged customers to arrive at the airport 3 hours before flight, with its check-in counters opening six hours before flight departure during this busy period.

“With record breaking numbers of passengers flying with Emirates this week, we have deployed extra staff at the airport to assist our customers, and we ask all travellers to be aware of check-in and gate closure timings. They should also allow ample time to get through the various touch-points at the airport, as check-in and gate closure timings will be strictly followed to ensure flights depart on schedule,” Mohammad H Mattar, Divisional Senior Vice President, Emirates Airport Services, said in a statement.
