Emirates places $31.7b Airbus order

Dubai-based airline makes record single purchase in aviation history on first day of the Dubai Air Show.

Dubai: Emirates Airlines has announced a $34.9 bilion order, the largest in civil aviation history.

The new orders comprise of 120 Airbus 350s, 11 A380s and 12 Boeing 777 – 300 ERs.

The deal with Airbus includes firm orders for 50 A350-900s and 20 A350-100s plus the option for a further 50 A350 -900s.

The first A350 will be delivered to Emirates in 2014.

Emirates announced firm orders for eight A380s which it had signed letters of intent for earlier this year.

It also placed firm orders for an additional three of the double-deck aircraft, bringing its total firm orders for the A380s to 58.

The contract with Boeing is for 12 firm orders for the 777-300 ER, valued at $3.2 billion.

With this new order Emirates now has 57 Boeing 777s pending delivery.

Shaikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Emirates' Chairman and Chief Executive said: “Emirates is creating aviation history today by committing $35 billion for new aircraft, our total order includes 93 aircraft on firm order and 50 options. This is the largest ever aircraft commitment in civil aviation made by any airline in a single order. With this order we try to keep up with the growth ambitions of Dubai,'' .

With this new order Emirates' order book stands at 246 aircraft.
