Seattle: Boeing Co. is turning to an outsider to head the commercial aeroplanes division, replacing Ray Conner with Kevin McAllister, a 27-year veteran of General Electric Co.’s aviation business.

McAllister, 53, the former chief executive officer of GE Aviation Services, assumed the leadership of Boeing’s largest business on Monday, according to a statement by the plane maker. Conner, 61, who notified Boeing of his retirement last week, will serve as vice-chairman through 2017.

The plane maker also promoted Stan Deal to the role of president and CEO of Boeing Global Services, a new division that combines customer service groups within the company’s commercial aeroplane and defence businesses.

The moves are the latest in a series of management changes since Dennis Muilenburg became Boeing’s CEO last year. The Chicago-based company announced October 14 that Ihssane Mounir would replace John Wojick in early 2017 as chief aeroplane salesman.

Deal, 52, a deputy of Conner’s, had served as senior vice-president of Boeing’s Commercial Aviation Services business since 2014. Muilenburg had signalled earlier that Boeing would focus on expanding its high-margin services offerings, which range from providing spare parts to round-the-clock maintenance.
