Abu Dhabi: Boeing and Mubadala are continuing discussions on the $2.5 billion contract announced at the Dubai Airshow last year, a Boeing executive has said.

While the contract was announced some five months ago, there has been little news on what exactly Mubadala will supply. Its subsidiary, Strata Manufacturing, already builds rib components for the Boeing B777 aircraft.

Jeffrey Johnson, President of Boeing Middle East, said that it has not been determined what Mubadala will supply but that talks are progressing. “We meet all the time. We have people out at the Al Ain plant helping to get them certified and produce … its a continuing discussion,” he said.

In regards to Boeing, Mubadala currently only produces parts for their wide body aircraft. It also produces parts for Airbus.

Asked when Mubadala could begin as a Boeing narrow-body supplier, Johnson suggested that it might not.

“Currently, the 737 has got some composite parts but it’s mainly an aluminium airplane so we really haven’t had any focus on that. We have committed to Tawazun Precision Industries that we’re going to allow them to bid,” to produce parts, he said.
