Dubai: The Bur Dubai police station recorded 1,354 traffic cases in 2014, a decrease from the 1,396 cases in 2013.

The numbers were revealed during the inspection of the station by Maj Gen Khamis Mattar Al Mazeina, Dubai Police Chief.

There was a decrease in the number of traffic deaths in the station’s area of jurisdication in 2014, with 53 in 2014 and 61 in 2013.

The station recorded 986 traffic reports in 2014, an increase from the 976 in 2013.

In 2014, there were 38 accidents involving cars overturning, 657 collisions, 88 run-over accidents, and 199 crashes.

Maj Gen Al Mazeina commended the efforts of the officers at the station in keeping the area safe and spreading awareness through their security awarness programmes.

In 2014, the station’s customer services provided services to 87,819 people and managed to reduce the waiting time from 19 minutes and 28 seconds in 2013 to nine minutes and 30 seconds in 2014.

The station issued 14,460 certificates proving applicants do not have a criminal record and there were 1,386 lost item reports in 2014, compared with 1,474 in 2013.

The Victim Outreach unit at the Bur Dubai police station recorded 2,595 criminal reports in 2014, and investigated 24 cases involving children, and helped a total of 17,045 victims.

Maj Gen Al Mazeina also watched a demonstration of how officers handle riots and arrest troublemakers.
