Legendary Kathak dancer Birju Maharaj will return to Dubai on Friday, December 2, at the Emirates International School Auditorium, accompanied by his disciple Saswati Sen.
Maharaj is known just as much for his poetry and soulful classical singing as he is for choreographing Kathak routines. He has also credited with hit Bollywood numbers such as Mohe Rang Do Laal from Bajirao Mastani and Kaahe Chhed Mohe from Devdas. He will also conduct a two-day workshop to formally inaugurate the Dubai-based Sargam Music Group. The musical group will pay a tribute too to the maestro on Friday evening.
The workshops will be held for three age groups: Juniors, for those who have just started learning classical dance; madhayama, for those who have been learning dance for a few years; and seniors, for teachers and performers with over five years’ experience. Each participant will receive a certificate signed by Maharaj.
