You’ve heard about these films at the year’s top film festivals; now it’s your turn to watch them right here in Dubai. The highly acclaimed The Master, Paul Thomas Anderson’s take on Scientology starring Joaquin Phoenix and Philip Seymour Hoffman, and Bill Murray’s performance as US President Franklin D. Roosevelt in Hyde Park on Hudson are just two of the much-anticipated films to screen in the Cinema of the World segment at the Dubai International Film Festival 2012.

“DIFF’s Cinema of the World programme this year is a fascinating range of remarkable films from some of international cinema’s finest filmmakers and acting talent,” said Sheila Whitaker, Director of the Festival’s International Programme, in a statement on Thursday. The festival takes place from December 9-16.

Also screening are Dustin Hoffman’s directorial debut Quartet, the story of four ageing opera singers in the British countryside, for which he nabbed Maggie Smith in the lead; and Wayne Blair’s musical drama The Sapphires, about a group of Australian Aboriginal singers, and David Mitchell’s Cloud Atlas, starring Tom Hanks and Halle Berry.
