MTV’s college channel has gone in two wildly different directions in naming Pope Francis and pop singer Lorde as its man and woman of the year. MTVU said Tuesday, Dec. 10, that both figures challenged their followers with unexpected stands. (Photo by Victoria Will/Invision/AP) Image Credit: Victoria Will/Invision/AP

Singer Lorde says she looks up to the likes of Grace Jones and David Bowie for style.

“People like Grace Jones and David Bowie, who have such a sense of themselves.…The kind of clothes that I’ve found I like to wear over the past year and six months have all been things that make me feel powerful and strong,” showbizspy.com quoted Lorde as saying.

Of her personal style, she said: “I wear a lot of pants. I wear a lot of long, structured dresses.”

She has a lot of young fans who look up to her, but she believes “it’s a fine line between being a role model and preaching to people.”

“I never want to tell anyone how they should be, especially not someone my age. But, that being said, I’m conscious of the fact that people my age are reading what I say and listening to what I say, and that’s cool-particularly for the girls who are into what I do,” Lorde added.
