British actor and film director Richard Attenborough has died at the age of 90.

Attenborough, who starred in the dinosaur blockbuster Jurassic Park, died at lunchtime on Sunday, his son told BBC News.

His family is expected to make a full statement on Tuesday.

His career in show business spanned six decades. He was considered one of Britain's leading actors before becoming a successful director.

He is best known for directing Gandhi, which won two Oscars.
