Gujarat’s Anugya Sharma will represent India at Miss India Worldwide which is being held in Abu Dhabi on June 20. Up to 40 contestants of Indian origin from 40 countries will take part in the pageant.

Sharma, 23, lives in Pune. She was crowned Miss India Worldwide 2014 on June 7. The first runner-up was Krishna Verma from Mumbai and second runner-up was Audrey D’Silva from Goa.

Miss India Worldwide, the international pageant for Indian communities, which is held around the world, comes to the UAE on June 20.

“More than 40 contestants of Indian origin settled in various countries across the globe between the age of 17 and 27, never married, and are citizens, residents, or born in the country they represent. [They] will be participating in the Miss India Worldwide pageant, which has been staged in various parts of the world,” Anuj Saxena, national director of Miss India Worldwide, said in a statement.

The pageant consists of four segments; evening gown, Indian dress, talent and question-answer. The winners of all the various national pageants from all over the world vie for the title of Miss India Worldwide. Bollywood Film Festival and Indian Culinary week will be held simultaneously.

According to Mansoor Al Obaidli, the official representative for the World Beauty Congress from UAE, the winner will take home a cash prize of $8,000 (Dh29,000) and various sponsored gifts, including photo sessions and modelling assignments apart from the crown.
