Sharjah: The UAE’s first Indian Festival celebrating culture and traditions started at Al Qasba on Wednesday with a huge public turnout on its opening night.

Continuing until Saturday, the Indian Festival is featuring a variety of music, dance, art, entertainment and culinary offerings that showcase India’s vibrant culture and rich legacy. Among those attending on the first day was K. Muraleedharan, Deputy Consul-General of the Consulate General of India, Dubai.

The opening night included a line-up of folk music recitals and dance performances by Kachi Ghodi, along with classical dance competitions for children and adults, and traditional Indian street dance routines.

Visitors to Al Qasba can also enjoy puppet shows by professional artists from Rajasthan and can participate in decoration tutorials and bangle workshops. Also on site is an Indian market, which is offering visitors the opportunity to buy souvenirs, such as garments and accessories.

The festival is open daily from 4.30pm to 10pm. On Friday, visitors have the chance to learn how to lead a healthy lifestyle by practising yoga during an interactive presentation from Sumit Manav, which will take place at 7.15pm on the main stage (next to Block A).
